When a load is being decelerated, the motor acts as a generator, converting the kenetic energy of the load to electrical energy. The dynamic braking circuit converts this electrical energy into another form, heat, through the use of dynamic braking resistors to slow the load. The resistors are sized based on your requirements for braking torque (ohms) and heat dissipation (watts) as recommended by the manufacturer of the drive and application.

Quick Build Braking Resistors and Enclosures

AC Variable Frequency Drives are commonplace today in the industrial marketplace, creating the need for reliable dynamic braking resistors that can be delivered to a job-site quickly. Milwaukee Resistor Corporation's quick build dynamic braking packages offers resistors mounted in NEMA type 1 enclosures and can be pre-wired for easy installation both at the OEM's factory and at an industrial job-site. The standard enclosure is constructed from Aluminum and includes two endplates and a screened cover. Sizes up to 6000 watts are available for shipment within one or two days and custom- designed dynamic braking resistors can be shipped within a few weeks, depending on the resistance value required.

Milwaukee Resistor Corporation stocks 300 watt ribwound resistors in 30 different ohmic values ranging from .1 to 100 ohms for same day/next day shipment. We stock 1500 watt resistors in 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 ohms. Series/parallel wiring combinations of these stock resistors can be utilized tocreate numerous other ohmic values. Resistors up to 6000 watts are available for shipment within one or two days and other braking resistors up to 19.2kw can be shipped within a few weeks depending on the required resistance value.
